Hoo! It's been a while. Sorry people. I'm having so much fun here, and I'm realizing that as much fun as blogging is, I'd usually rather be out in the sunshine with my peeps or the puppies. Today, however, the sunshine is just overbearing. It is SO HOT. I walked down the street to staff accom and nearly melted. Best stay inside and stay cool.
Things in Dawson are still as excellent as ever. I love it here so much. I hear many of my co-workers comment excitedly on the fact that there are only six weeks left of work. For me, though, it's not exciting at all -- it just means I have to leave soon! :( I'm having so much fun... this past week I went for a 3 hour canoe trip down the Klondike with my Quebecois friend Karine, which was awesome. We nearly tipped a couple of times, and actually, later on that day our friends Rob and Chris canoed down the same river, and actually DID tip. They lost their wallets, shoes, and the canoe. I have heard, though, that they located the canoe, so they don't have to pay the $800 for the rental canoe. Phew.
I've made friends with seventeen year old Logan, who came to visit with his grandparents three weeks ago, decided to stay, and now is busy with three jobs(two of which are at the Westmark). His eleven year old cousin, Josh, is often around the house being a typical eleven year old, which can be fun. We enjoy taking the dogs on their daily "exercise routine" which means that we go to the park and get the dogs to run up and down the slide. Josh and Logan's grandparents Ray and Lucille are here often as well, which has been nice but busy -- there's always something happening at our house.
I'll tell you one of my most exciting stories. About two weeks ago, during the breakfast rush, I approached a man at one of my tables and immediately thought, "Wow, that guy just looks.. famous." I couldn't place where from, though, nor did I have any idea where I might have seen him before. He paid by room charge, so I was able to find out his name, which didn't ring any bells. A week later, Stephanie said to me, "Lindsay, you'll appreciate this! Someone from M*A*S*H* stayed at our hotel!" I said, "What?! And I didn't see him... WAIT A MINUTE!" And it all came together - the "famous" man I served was Mike Farrell, or perhaps more well known as Captain BJ Hunnicut! This should be pretty exciting for you MASH fans... if you're not a fan, you may find it less exciting, but let me tell you, I was STOKED. I think my reaction scared my roommates a bit. So that was my big news for about three days.
When I'm not serving movie stars, other funny things continue to brighten my day. Yesterday I had a couple ask me, "Ma'am, do you have any stores here in Dawson?" I sort of stared at them for a second, trying to process their question, and said, "Yes.. we have stores." When Kyle heard this story, he said that I should have told them that we actually get EVERYTHING shipped up here. Next time.
At work right now we're playing a game called "Assassins," where each employee is given a name of another employee that they have to hunt down and "kill" with an elastic band. I played this game during second year of university and was sadly killed on the first day. This time is different. I've killed two people -- in fact, I killed someone today. I had to kill a busser named Ginnette whom I'd never met before, so I found out where she lived, knocked on her door and said, "Hi, Ginette? Do you work at the Westmark? Well, I'm sorry that this is the first time we're meeting, but *ping*, you're dead." It was awesome. We've been playing for a couple of weeks now and it's getting pretty hardcore.
Well, I think it's time for a nap. Thanks for reading, friends.
*God, I'm still in awe of You for Your creativity.. for the beauty of this earth - for how unique each person I meet here is. For your forgiveness, love and compassion for every single person. Thank You for who You are. Thank You for bringing me here! I love it. I love You. In Jesus' name, Amen.*
