tribute to a birthday girl

It's my friend Gabi's birthday today. Being on the other side of the world makes it hard to celebrate with her, but thank goodness for internet. Gabs, I wish we could eat cake together, and I wish I could give you a big huge birthday hug - but this will have to do!

Gabi is the kind of friend I sincerely hope everyone has the opportunity to have. Her love for God, for people, and for the simple things of nature and life are beautiful and contagious. For example: Gabi loves clouds. And Gabi doesn't just keep her love of clouds to herself - she makes sure everyone appreciates God's masterpiece by exclaiming "AHHHH!!! Just LOOK at the SKY! It's BEAUTIFUL!!" Gabi also loves people - she treats all people equally. It doesn't matter if you're an acquaintance, a friend, or a homeless man.
One early morning last December, Gabi decided to go to the beach to have a quiet time, and about half an hour later I thought it would be a good idea for me to do the same, so I went too. But as I approached the ABSA bank just before the alleyway you take to the beach, I saw none other than Gabi herself sitting down and listening intently to a homeless man she'd just met. "Hi Gabs!" I say. She says hi back, and then, "This is Mark."

I am certain that Gabi sees people through God's eyes, and treats them as God would. She's my example.

Gabi is a completely honest and open person. She doesn't hesitate to compliment people or to tell them how much she loves them on a daily basis. She is kind, humble, beautiful, sincere, enthusiastic, and fun.

Gabs - I LOVE YOU! You have taught me so much - you have shown me how exciting love and life and Jesus can be. I hope that today is a special one for you, because you are a special, special girl. And I thank and praise my Jesus for bringing you into my life and for bringing you into this world twenty years ago today!
